In this article, I will share how to do keyword research with Google Search Console.
How to do Keyword Research with Google Search Console
We will explore Google Search Console’s primary function that will help you do better keyword research.
First, head over to your Search Console. Every website owner has a search console account on google, so go to Google Search Console.
Google Search Console Performance

This is the page where Google shows keyword data for your website. Like on which keyword you are ranking and where you are ranking.
Here you will also get how many clicks your website got from a particular keyword search.
Here you 2 different filters and functionalities available to you.
The first search type and the second is the Date.
With the help of a search type filter, you can see the performance of the website for different search types like Web (as default), Image, Video, and News.
For example, if you click on Search Type then Click on Image, Google will show the performance of your website for images. How your website or blog post appears in image search in Google.
Likewise, if you select News filter, it will show data for Google news on how your blog post or articles perform in Google News.
The second filter is Date. With the help of this filter, you can see your website or blog post-performance for a particular date range.
Total Impressions, Clicks, and Average Position
Now that you have selected a search type and date range, see the given data chart below.
For example, if you choose Web as search type and date range of 3 months. It shows the last 3 months’ data, like how many Clicks and impressions your site received.
In my case, I received 2.99k total clicks and 162k total impressions in last 28 days. It means 162k times your site appeared in Google search, and out of 162k, 2.99k visitors clicked and came on my website.

You can see the “Average Position” section in the same line of Impressions and clicks.
Google defines the average Position based on the total number of clicks and impressions. And keywords we are already ranking for. Our goal is always to keep on reducing it.
We don’t want it to be increasing, but we want to keep it reducing when we are reducing, which means our search position ranking will be increased.
GSC Keywords Data
In this section, you will see a list of keywords your website is ranking for.
There are many sections in GSC to do keyword research with Google Search Console. Let’s explore one by one:

Queries: In this section, you will find your ranking keywords with total Impressions and clicks. If your blog post ranks for a keyword or multiple keywords, it will show here. By optimizing those keywords, you can achieve a better ranking in SERPs.

Pages: In this section, you will see a list of your blog posts or articles ranking in Google Search for different queries. With total Impressions and clicks. If you click on a page URL in this tab, you will see specific data for that particular page.

Countries: Target audience is key in content marketing. So in this section, you can explore in which countries your website is ranking. With this, we can identify which geolocation or country is most profitable for your website or business.

Devices: To see your website traffic source devices, you can explore this section. Here you can check how many impressions and clicks you are getting from Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop devices. How can it help you? Well, if your website is getting potential traffic from mobile devices, you should optimize your website for better performance.

Search Appearance: Google has a lot of search snippets like Video snippets, Schema Markup, rich snippets, job listing, product listing, etc. If your website manages to rank on any of these, it will show that data in the search appearance section.

Dates: This dates tab shows stats for your website on a daily basis from the Google search. For example, on 18 Jan 2022, my website received 104 clicks out of 7,127 impressive.

Find Relevant Keywords
Find Most Popular Keywords: To find keywords that your website is ranking for the most, just go to the Queries tab and select biggest time span and now you can see a list of most powerful keywords for your website. With the help of those popular keywords, you can also find content ideas for your website.
Find Low Competition Keywords: If your website is new, you should go with low competition keywords. To find Low Competition Keywords, just stay in queries and click on “Position,” which you can see on the right-hand side.
After you click on Position, it will show keywords you are ranking good for, and now you just have to optimize them a little bit to rank #1 Position.

Find keywords that your website is ranking for and find keywords that your website is not ranking well. Then update and optimize your blog posts or articles for those keywords.
